About Us

The story behind HANKO JAPAN.

Preserving a Quiet Japanese Craft, One Name at a Time

In Japan, a HANKO is more than a stamp. It represents identity, responsibility, and trust — something deeply personal, used for generations in daily life.

However, as society becomes increasingly digital, many traditional hanko artisans have been quietly closing their doors. With fewer opportunities to pass down their skills, a beautiful part of Japanese craftsmanship is quietly disappearing.

HANKO JAPAN was created to change that. We work directly with a historic Japanese workshop that has been crafting hanko for over 140 years. Each piece is made by hand, one at a time, by skilled artisans who have dedicated their lives to this craft.

Our goal is not to sell souvenirs. It is to preserve a living tradition — and to carry the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship beyond Japan.

Crafted by a 140-Year-Old Japanese Artisan

Our hanko are handcrafted in Japan by skilled artisans from a workshop with over 140 years of history. Each piece is carefully made by hand — not mass-produced — using techniques refined over generations.

Behind every stamp is the time, experience, and quiet dedication of a craftsman who takes pride in their work.

We believe this craftsmanship deserves to be seen, felt, and carried beyond Japan.

Your Name, Reimagined in Japanese

At HANKO JAPAN, we transform your name into Japanese characters — kanji (漢字), katakana (カタカナ), or hiragana (ひらがな) — carefully chosen to reflect sound, balance, and meaning.

For many of our customers, this is the first time their name takes on a new form — a moment of discovery and personal connection with Japanese culture.

Your hanko becomes more than an object. It becomes a quiet expression of identity.
